The Story
The Mount Vernon Trail is an 18-mile paved multi-use trail that stretches from George Washington's Mount Vernon to Theodore Roosevelt Island. The Mount Vernon Trail is a popular recreation resource and a critical regional transportation connection. The trail hosts over one million pedestrians and bicyclists annually. Today we are biking from Gravelly Point to Theodore Roosevelt.
Ahead of us is the Arlington Memorial Bridge. It spans the Potomac. On the other side of the water is the Lincoln Memorial.
As we get closer to Theodore Roosevelt Island, the scenery becomes very green and wooded. The ground is made up of these wooden elevated surfaces that rumble and shake you as you bike along them. It's such a unique environment to bike through.
