W&OD - Falls Church

W&OD Trail, Falls Church, VA

The Story

It is often called Virginia's skinniest park. The Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park is a 45-mile paved trail between Purcellville and Shirlington.

Today we're riding from Dunn Loring through Falls Church. There's tons of parking near the trail and amenities like Idlywood Park. The Falls Church section is one of my favorites because it splits traffic between pedestrians and bikers. After you pass the East Falls Church Metro station, we get close to the Four Mile Run Stream, on the other side is another bike path called 4-mile-run goes alongside till Shirlington.

The Falls Church section ends right at the Bon Air Rose Garden, which is the perfect time for a pit stop.

When I bike through, I love looking at the different trails, bridges and parks.

Along the trail you can stop to have a picnic, play tennis, or have a bbq. At the end of this section, I stopped and smelled the roses at the Bon Air Rose Garden.

After Falls Church, the trail merges back and starts to get more wooded. There are lots of sport parks and side trails around here.
